Effective Date: 17-Jun-2026
App Name: PlanNEat: Indian Meal Planner
Developer / Data Controller: Nikhil Mathew
Contact Email: support@planneat.in
This Privacy Policy explains how PlanNEat: Indian Meal Planner ("PlanNEat", "the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our mobile application. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1) Information We Collect
1.1 Account and Authentication Information
To provide sign-in and user identification, we collect and store information associated with authentication through Firebase Authentication. Depending on the sign-in method you choose, this may include:
- Email address (if you use email and password sign-in)
- Phone number (if you use phone OTP sign-in)
- Google account sign-in identifier (if you use Google sign-in)
- Apple account sign-in identifier (if you use Apple sign-in)
We do not require or collect your name, date of birth, age, gender, profile photo, precise location, contacts, camera access, or media files.
1.2 User Preferences and Meal Planning Data
The App stores information you provide or generate while using the App, such as:
- Dietary preferences (including vegetarian/non-vegetarian days, diet type)
- Cuisine preferences
- Allergies and restrictions
- Favorite dishes or selected dishes
- Meal plans generated for you and meals you save
- Grocery lists and ingredient checklist status
- Notes and other text you create within the App
- Any user-generated or AI-generated content saved within the App
This data is stored to provide core app functionality, including filtering dishes, generating meal plans, saving your plans, and showing your saved information back to you.
1.3 Admin and Community Contributions (User-Added Items)
If the App allows you to add meals or ingredients, such user-added items may be reviewed and may be incorporated into the App's broader database to improve the experience for all users. Once incorporated, these entries may be stored without any identifiers linking them to your account (i.e., in a de-identified form).
1.4 Technical Data, Analytics, and Diagnostics
To improve stability and performance, we use the following Firebase services:
- Firebase Analytics (usage events and app interaction metrics)
- Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports and diagnostics)
- Firebase Performance Monitoring (performance and latency metrics)
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) (push notifications and delivery diagnostics)
These services collect technical information such as device and app instance details, crash logs, and performance metrics. This information helps us understand how the App is used, diagnose issues, and improve reliability.
2) How We Use Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
- To create and manage your account and authenticate you
- To provide and operate core features (meal plan generation, saving plans, grocery lists, preferences, and notes)
- To personalize your experience based on your preferences and selections
- To generate meal plans and related outputs using AI (see Section 3)
- To send reminders and notifications you enable (such as planning prompts and grocery reminders)
- To troubleshoot, maintain, and improve the App (including analytics, crash reporting, and performance monitoring)
- To respond to support requests you send us
3) AI Processing and Third-Party AI Services (Gemini)
PlanNEat uses Google Gemini through backend processing (via Cloud Functions) to support features such as:
- Selecting dishes and generating meal plans based on your preferences
- Ingredient name normalization (standardizing ingredient naming)
To provide these AI features, we may send some relevant inputs to Gemini, such as:
- Your dietary preferences, veg/non-veg days, cuisine preferences, allergies/restrictions
- Dish selections and related meal-planning context
- Ingredient lists (including admin-created ingredient data and, where relevant, user-added items) for normalization purposes
Important notes:
- Meal plans are generated by the AI based on your preferences and selections (you are not "sending your meal plan history" for analysis beyond what is required to generate and display your plan).
- We do not intend to send unnecessary personal identifiers to the AI service beyond what is required to generate the requested outputs.
- AI outputs may occasionally be inaccurate. You should use your own judgment, especially for allergy-related or health-related decisions.
4) Where and How We Store Data
We store user-related app data using Google Firebase services, including:
- Firebase Authentication for sign-in
- Cloud Firestore for storing preferences, meal plans, grocery lists, notes, and saved content
- Cloud Functions for backend processing (including AI requests)
- Algolia for powering in-app search functionality (dish and ingredient search)
We take reasonable measures to protect data through standard security practices available in Firebase (such as access controls and security rules). No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to use reputable services and minimize risk.
5) Sharing and Disclosure of Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information only in the following situations:
- Service Providers: With Google/Firebase and Gemini as necessary to provide the App's functionality (authentication, database storage, backend processing, and AI features).
- Legal Requirements: If required to comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or governmental requests.
- Protection and Safety: To protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or the developer, as permitted by law.
Aside from Google/Firebase, Gemini and Algolia, we do not currently share data with other third parties.
6) Notifications and Reminders
PlanNEat may send push notifications (if you allow notifications), such as:
- Reminders to plan meals (if no plan exists)
- Grocery reminders (based on your plan)
- Reminders about unticked/unpurchased items
You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
7) Data Retention
We retain your app data in Firestore as long as you maintain an account and continue using the App, to provide ongoing access to your preferences, saved plans, grocery lists, and notes.
Support communications you send to us may be retained in our email inbox for record-keeping and to resolve issues.
8) Your Choices and Rights
8.1 Access and Updates

- Restoration: If you change your mind, you can recover your account and all associated data by logging in and selecting the "Restore" option before the 14-day window expires.
- Permanent Deletion: If the account is not restored within 14 days, the following data will be permanently deleted: your diet preferences, allergens, personal menus, planned meals, saved recipes, and generated grocery lists.
Data Retention & Anonymization
To help improve PlanNEat and maintain the integrity of our shared database, certain non-identifiable data will be retained after your account is deleted. This includes:
- Anonymized Content: User-generated AI queries and responses, custom dishes, and custom ingredients.
- De-identification: Before retention, all personal identifiers are stripped from this data so it can no longer be linked to your identity. This anonymized information is incorporated into our larger database for future review, research, and service optimization.
Note: We may also retain certain records where required for legal compliance, security, or fraud prevention.
9) Children's Privacy
PlanNEat is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps to delete it.
10) Global Availability and International Data Transfers
PlanNEat is available globally. Our service providers (such as Google/Firebase and Gemini) may process data on servers located in various countries. By using the App, you understand that your information may be processed and stored outside your country of residence, where data protection laws may differ.
11) Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version in the App or on the listing page, and we will update the "Effective Date" above. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
